Speakers will discuss the lawyer’s duty to exercise independent judgment and provide advice that considers legal, moral, and social factors. The program explores Kayden’s Law and its connection to reunification therapy, along with recent findings from Professor Joan S. Meier’s research on child custody outcomes involving abuse and alienation. Attendees will gain insight into the foundations of reunification therapy, trauma responses in children, and the ethical balance mental health providers must maintain. Through practical case studies and discussion, participants will learn how to identify trauma-informed therapists and better support families navigating complex custody and safety issues.
