Immigration Issues and Family Law

September 3 @ 12:00 PM - 1:15 PM
$40

Please join us for our upcoming virtual CLE program: Immigration and Family Law. This seminar will explain the different types of immigration status that a non-citizen client or opposing party may hold, how each type of immigration status may affect the risks a person faces during a family law proceeding, and immigration status may create a power imbalance or fear of accessing the legal system. We will discuss common misconceptions that non-citizens may hold about Colorado family law and their rights during a family law proceeding, and how practitioners can address these concerns in order to empower all participants in the family law system, regardless of immigration status or country of origin. Emily Smith has been serving Colorado’s immigrant community for over a decade. As an attorney with McKinley Law Group, she represents clients in immigration and family law matters, including petitions for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, divorce, and child custody cases.
