Please join us for our fourth program of our new membership year: The Intersection of Bankruptcy and Divorce

NOW OFFERING BOTH VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON OPTIONS!

This program has been approved for 1 CLE/CE credit.

This presentation will help you recognize situations when a conversation about bankruptcy would be helpful, understand the terms and references that clients make who are in the process of bankruptcy, how filing for bankruptcy could help your client and appreciate the emotions your client may be experiencing.

Specifically, the presentation will cover:

  • Overview different types of bankruptcy – Chapter 7 and Chapter 13, mention Chapter 11
  • Who/what constitutes a “Debtor” in bankruptcy
  • Learn to recognize when bankruptcy is beneficial to take
  • Limits on filing bankruptcy (debt limit(s), timing, etc.)
  • Concept of “non-filing spouse” and household income considerations
  • What is “Means Testing”
  • Good and bad of filing, differences between 7 and 13 here, “responsible bankruptcy”
  • What is the “Automatic Stay”
  • Bankruptcy and divorce (effects of Stay), cost, and savings to filing jointly
  • Process to filing
  • Restrictions on bankruptcy and other contractual implications associated with bankruptcy
  • Emotional aspect good/bad to filing for bankruptcy

Our talented speaker for this topic will be Todd N. Stoneman, Owner/Attorney of Stoneman Legal in Longmont, CO.

***Networking: Programs do begin promptly at noon. You’re welcome to come 15 minutes earlier to network with colleagues. There is also time to mingle after the formal presentation is complete.
